Wind energy for the Seneca Nation of Indians

Developing independent energy supplies in their reservations constitutes an important step into a self-sufficient future for the Seneca Nation of Indians. The successful implementation of such a project will not only enable them to supply members of their community with reasonably-priced electricity. Generating energy in an environmentally-friendly way also enhances their cultural identity which is traditionally linked closely to the earth and nature.

A wind turbine type VENSYS 82 with 1.5 MW produced in Saarland now supports a solar power plant in providing electricity to the local community. VENSYS Inc. in the USA accompanied the Seneca Community Cattaraugus near Portsmouth in the state of New York for the duration of the project: from planning and the involvement of community members to financing, erecting and operating the facility. The issue of share certificates also gave citizens the chance to create direct value for themselves.

A traditional ceremony was held on the occasion of the start of construction on 27 April 2017. The commissioning of the facility at the end of 2017 laid the foundation for a state-of-the-art infrastructure that will enhance the right of the Seneca to self-determination.
